61 Endowments

NEW ENDOWMENT FUND
FOR THE TEACHING OF ETHICAL DECISION-MAKING

“The news over the past decade has been filled with revelations of ethical lapses by people from all walks of life….political corruption, immoral business practices….a breakdown of our ethical moorings across society. As part of our 50th Reunion drive to help Lehigh continue to SHINE in the community of higher learning, the Class of ‘61 is establishing a new Endowment to enhance the education of all Lehigh students in ethical decision-making. While we assume that Lehigh students arrive on campus with a good understanding of right and wrong, the global and complex world they will enter upon graduation will make ethical decision making more complex and more critical.

Working with academic and development staff at Lehigh, our Class is creating an Endowment, which will strengthen Lehigh’s ethical education initiatives. As part of our 50th reunion gift to Lehigh, we are hopeful that our Class will contribute at least $250,000 toward this Endowment and we will encourage other Alumni and future graduating classes to join us in building on the base that ‘61 will establish.

Members of the Reunion Committee have pledged at least $25,000 to get the Endowment started. To this end class members Pete Hagerman and Mike Hoben have chaired a class committee to bring a meaningful program to fruition. We believe this Endowment will send a strong message to prospective students, their parents, corporations and other potential contributors and the higher education community that Lehigh is leading the way in the consideration of ethics in all decisions its graduates will make.

We urge you to continue, and, hopefully expand “unrestricted” support of the Lehigh Fund and any other Lehigh efforts you have contributed to in the past, and to make an additional “restricted” contribution to the new Ethics Endowment.”

61 ENDOWMENT FUNDS
ESTABLISHED WITH OUR 20TH REUNION CLASS GIFT

Professorial Endowments: This has been a most successful program since it was endowed in 1981. The Class of 1961 professor endowment has provided funding for the use of 51 newly tenured professors. By adding to this endowment we hope to expand the possibilities available to our faculty in areas of publishing, research and other activities beyond campus. Already, each year at Founders Day the class is recognized as new Professors are named. We can only expect more continued recognition for our gifts.
Scholarship Endowments: Currently one student, Stacy Heideloff ‘11, is a 61 Scholar. We can take pride in the many graduates who received help since our Class Gift initiated the program 27 years ago. Additional funds as available from our Reunion Fund will be added to this Endowment in the expectation of multiple scholars at any given time.
Tressolini Lectures: This lecture series has enabled Lehigh to bring prominent national figures to campus to speak about law related topics
