Dr. M. J. Bishop
As an associate professor in the College of Education’s Teaching, Learning,
and Technology Program, and in the spirit of your original intent to
recognize and nurture exemplary scholar-teachers, I have been using my award
for general research support in the area of instructional design and
development, as described below:
* In October 2008, I attended the Association for Educational Communication
and Technology’s (AECT) Conference in Orlando, FL, where I am the outgoing
President Elect of the organization’s Design and Development Division. In
addition to presenting at the conference alone and with my students, this
meeting was my opportunity to complete my term within the AECT leadership
and look toward how I might next contribute to our organization.
* Because I always try to model good educational technology use in my own
teaching, I have also been using some of the funds supplied to purchase
state-of-the-art instructional technologies for use in my courses in our
Instructional Technology master’s program and our Learning Sciences and
Technology doctoral program.
* Over the months to come, I plan to use the rest of my award to continue
seeding the research and development of an instructional gaming project that
I have been working on with Dr. Hector Munoz-Avilla (another Class of ‘61
Award Recipient in Computer Science).
I continue to be incredibly honored to have received this award and cannot
be more grateful to have the funds needed to explore best practices in
technology-based teaching and learning and to interact at international
meetings with my colleagues in the field. If available, I would he happy to
meet with alumni in conjunction with live adult education on May 14-15,
2009.
